This is a good point. I’m a big proponent of *provider diversity*. Every cloud service you use should have a different login. Every piece of data you create should have an easily-accessible copy in your local file system. Everything on your computer should be backed up offsite with a separate cloud backup.
Do not put all your eggs into one cloud service basket. Do not use the same login for unrelated services. This rules out most of Apple’s cloud products for me.

@drahardja@sfba.social And especially don't tie your data to the same cloud platform as your devices -- eg Apple users. To wit: if something gets borked somewhere in your iCloud credentials (which STILL remains a shaky cloud service) you may well be truly screwed. I am now minimally dependent on Apple for authentication/security for this very reason, happily giving up ease and convenience for reassurance and resiliency.

I agree with the author, I've enjoyed connecting with folks here more than I ever did on Twitter and it also kindled in me a newfound love for the Fediverse and the IndieWeb. Long live fedi-infosec!
